    A Wedding present

    Hi Guys

I recently joined the website as my sister and here husband-to-be will be spending their honeymoon in Vietnam. They currently live in the UK and their current UK Sat Nav has broken. I was intending to buy them a Sat Nav they can use when back in the UK and upload your Vietnam maps for use when they are on their motorbike trip in Vietnam.

Which unit is it best to buy for this purpose? I was expecting to spend about GBP150 + donation.

    Thanks
    Todd192

The cheapest would be the Nuvi series. However the battery lasts for 3-4 hours only and less suitable for motorbike riding. For such a purpose a "handheld" unit fits much better.
Based on your budget, there won't be too many choices. Amazon has quite good offers once in a while.
Look at the NEW eTrex series, the 30 or 40 models offer features which make sense. Disadvantage - screen not really big. Forget the Dakotas, those are just stripped Oregon models.
If I remember things correctly, only the 450 + 550 Oregon models come with with a sun readable display. The latest series which is the Montana doesn't meet your budget requirements.
    Hope that helps.

Thanks for your help. Maybe i am being tight with the budget. What would be the best value if the budget was not an issue? Are all Sat Navs going to be easily compatible with the maps you guys create on here? Am I best to buy a UK model with UK maps and add Vietnam rather than a Sat Nav locally and add both Vietnam and UK maps?

As long as you buy a Garmin you will be fine. It's the only manufacturer who supports 3rd party maps. Select a unit which comes with a microSD slot so you can have the UK map installed in the units internal memory and any 3rd party map on a microSD card.

Buying in the UK is definitely an advantage in your case. Pre-installed UK maps and the user's domicile is also there in case of any warranty issues.
Have a look here: [Dear Guest/Member you can't see link before replyclick here to register]Quite good prices, the only question is - do they ship overseas in case you prefer to have the unit shipped to you?

Thanks for your help. I have decided to get it delivered to the UK and sort it out just before the wedding. What do you reckon to this [Dear Guest/Member you can't see link before replyclick here to register] ? It seems like this is more for off-road sports that just road navigation. Will it stil work well on roads with your maps? Is it good for the price?

The pictured Oregon 450T is what they call an outdoor unit. It will work perfectly with our maps.

However, the screen on the 450 Oregon is difficult to read in bright day light, better would be the Oregon 550T (comes with a different sun readable screen) [Dear Guest/Member you can't see link before replyclick here to register] if you don't mind the price.

The latest unit designed for outdoor as well as car navigation is the Montana [Dear Guest/Member you can't see link before replyclick here to register] but still quite pricey.

Amazon price are quite ok. You might check with Conrad electronics UK; sometimes they carry special offers. Bought my Nuvi 1490T at Conrad about 20 Euros cheaper than the Amazon price.
