Asiagps Laos_Cambodia_Vietnam Ver R7 works funny in new NUVI2575R

    Hi

Not really sure where to put this post, so here it is.

Just bought the new Garmin NUVI2575R Malaysia/Singapore unit, loaded the AsiaGPS R7 map into the unit and found it behaved a bit funny. Tried to zoom the map and discovered that at certain zoom levels, the map disappears. Now I can only see the map at 200M and 300M levels. At higher levels also some will show and some don't.

The machine has firmware ver 2.90

Tried that on 2 machines of the same model so far, the same behaviour.

Anyone having this same problem and are there any solutions??

This problem does not appear on Garmin City Navigator Mal/Sin map or Malsingmap, but MalFreeMap has to be generated with polygons taken out....

    Regards

    Hmmmm, difficult to answer :)
But - I assume the funny bahaviour is related to the version of your brand new unit Nuvi 2575R.
If I perform a search for this particular unit on the official Garmin website I won't get any results :)
Further more, we all know that Garmin is trying to cut down on 3rd party maps. How often have we seen firmware updates with changes related to 3rd party maps? Quite a few I guess.....

Apparently the Nuvi 2575R is only available in the Mal/Sin market if I am not mistaken. At least it is not available in Thailand...
No issues have been reported with the version 7 on devices sold in international markets so far.

I am most certainly aware of the fact that Mapsingmap as the Mal/Sin map supplier knows exactly what the installed firmware requires.
As you said, MalFreeMap had to modify their maps in order to make them work with the new unit.

The only way I see is to apply kind of a pressure towards Garmin and let's see how long it takes to update the firmware.
Greetings from the Bangkok Island :)

Hi to resident of Bangkok Island!

Here is hoping you are not swimming around or going to work in a boat yet! It is a concern that the floods are coming to the center now and may even flood Rama 2 areas soon! If that happens, may even cut off north to south Thailand!

Understand that the road in front of Chaophraya Park Hotel is also flooded - we are scheduled to stay there for 2 nights on the way back from Vietnam just before Christmas in December, hope things will be better by then.

On subject of NUVI2575R, you are right, it is hoped that the next firmware update will address this issue, if not... we will have to make do with AsiaGPS R7 maps at zoom levels of 200M and 300M only.

I understand MalsingMaps have no problems as their maps are compiled with Garmin compilers while MalFreeMaps are done with a 3rd party compiler.

What I also understand is that MalFreeMaps installation included flexibility for users to configure their maps for NUVI models... without the polygon parameters, they are OK now for use with model NUVI2XXX series....

Yannawa (where I am staying) is still bone dry. Travels in BKK are getting more and more difficult with every day of the deluge. Yes, correct, the south might get cut off if Rama II becomes flooded. Trouble is, that the Petkasem road which becomes HW no 4 once out of town is also flooded. So there is hardly any alternative route to the south. As far as your December travel plans concerned, the flood will either be gone unit then or you guys would need to swap for submarines.
Quite a good map showing passable roads to N and NE is here: [Dear Guest/Member you can't see link before replyclick here to register]
A Google map showing the current flooding scenario can be found [Dear Guest/Member you can't see link before replyclick here to register] An even better one is [Dear Guest/Member you can't see link before replyclick here to register].

With regards to the Nuvi issue and MalSingMaps - as "official" Garmin map supplier the map is being programmed with the Garmin MPC mapping software. From what I know this soft requires polygons to be programmed as a shape file which is pretty much different from polygons created with Mapedit.

Maps created with another mapping software than MPC can't handle polygons as shape files, they can only convert shape into polygons :)

So as for now no other options than to wait for a fix via firmware update. However, you should raise the issue with the MalSingMaps forum community in order to make Garmin aware of the funny display related to those 25XX units.

    Best wishes

Yannawa looks like it is in an area surrounded by the Chao Phraya river, so if the river does not overflow at this point, will be about the last place to flood.

Anyway, do take care and stay healthy!

Somebody reported that water is covering all over Thai, Cambodia and it may be real now. Back to the original question, My son has old Nuvi 205 with V/L/C map loaded. It will go to the maximum zoom level without any issue. I wonder your problem is something related to the immature firmware issue. If you can, pls test on the older Nuvi model.

    best regards,

    Ryo

    Hi Ryo

I have used the AsiaGPS map R7 on NUVI205/265/750/660/1460 without any problems, the problem of map diappearing at certain zoom levels is now only visible on my new NUVI 2575R - tried it on the NUVI 2565 also same problem. So I guess it is the firmware issue.....
