    help appreciated from neophyte

i'm sorry for my embarrassingly naive questions but i'm just getting started here. i intend to revisit vietnam after almost 50 years soon and i need a map database. nobody offers a commercial infrastructure database that i have found, e.g. garmin. i have accumulated a 13mB gdb file on locales of american involvement in the vietnam war that i can upload to my garmin gps's but i have no base infrastructure map. surely there are veterans out there who are familiar with my plight. any suggestions very much appreciated.

GDB file is usually not the best quality. Saving recorded tracklogs (which are GPX format) in GDB file makes them to lose many details.
Nevertheless I am quite sure that Ryo - our Vietnam mapper - will pick up the challenge and if you are willing to contribute the tracklogs you have, to put them on the map for you.
    Just a question of time.....

To create a map on your own, without knowing how much experience in mapping you have, will most certainly take weeks or month with only very little details.
Just a suggestion, the choice is yours

    Hi 198bgd,

I'm more than happy to receive your map. Actually, I made my personal version of the Vietnam war Khe Sanh map for my own purpose. I visited there and found out some evidence of accuracy of my map. The Air Traffic Control Tower base was the correct position but it has turned to the coffee field with some concrete waste. This map was an experiment map to convert raster map (Paper map) to the vector map and found out it is not so practical to cover larger range. If you can post your gdb file on the some file sharing site, I can pick it up. I know many Vietnam veterans are revisiting Vietnam. At least your way points can be useful for those people.

If you are interested, you can download attached Khe Sanh map that I made 5 years ago. This map was created based on Vietnam War Military Document and most of the roads does not exist anymore. That is why I didn't integrate this map on our AsiaGPS map. This map is not mapsource ready format. You need to load this map using sendmap20 or similar tool on your GPS.

    best regards,

    Ryo
