are the maps (vietnam) "open source?" can they be recompiled using our own data? if so, could you point me to a place to get started learning to generate such a map? thanks.

All maps here are NOT open source. Creating maps is a long and painful procedure. It takes thousands of hours to create such a map.Originally Posted by 198bgde [Dear Guest/Member you can't see link before replyclick here to register]
Our maps are based on publicly available data, like international borders, provencial borders, water ways, etc.
Further map development is based on user contributed tracklogs, which means users have contributed their collected data to us for mapping purposes.
FYI, if a user records a tracklog, it takes about 4 time more time (than the track record) to convert it into a road on the map.
If you loot at our maps i.e. in Mapsource, they do have a copyright mark somewhere in the corner.
Thanks

thanks for your reply. i would never "loot" someone elses copyrighted or otherwise protected works. i am new here and i simply didn't know. i am interested in learning how to compile my own maps--and if i accomplish that, i will certainly share them.
Sorry, that was a typo - I didnt mean "loot" but look.Originally Posted by 198bgde [Dear Guest/Member you can't see link before replyclick here to register]
