    Smile done it! success

thank you Lurkin...you're indeed very fast!
I did what you suggested. Now I see that details are shown with more and more details as I zoom in. good.
I was expecting national highways and state roads to be visible even when zoom is not very big...isn't it so (or maybe Myanmar is not the best country to start with!)

    Anyway thank you again.
    looking forward to discover more

    Hi Giovanni,

Glad to read that you managed to install the map on your unit :)
    National highways in Myanmar? :))
You will understand once you physically visit the country and see the road conditions there.

    Cheers

    Myanmar map updates

    Hi Lurkin,
I have been spending the last three weeks in Myanmar and brought my GPS with me. The download done was really helpful.
It happened that I have gone to road not mentioned in the current map and also I have recorded way points not mentioned previously such as new hotels, jetties, bus stations etc.
So now I would like to send everything to you if you want to update the map. Is it possible? How? are you interested? Let me know.

    Anotherthing, more technical.
I bought a micro card of 3GB to memorize my tracks. When I go to the track log menu it says that my soace is 62% used and still 15 tracks unused. Now, if I am not able to re-emty the machine memory then I won't be able to save any more track in the future. How to do? Shall I do it one I connect the machine to a computer and then save everything as file?

    please let me know.
    all the best,

    giovanni

    Hello Giovanni,

Thanks for your feedback, I hope the map was useful for you.

    The technical thing first.....
Depends on where you store the recorded data. If you store them on the microSD card which is recommendable, the tracklogs are all stored on the card and they have the extension GPX.
In case you didn't tick the box to store your data on the microSD card they will be store in units internal memory. To retrieve them from the internal memory you need to connect your eTrex via the USB cable to a computer where you have Garmin's Mapsource installed.
In Mapsource click on "Transfer" on the top menu and select "Receive from device" which will upload all tracklogs from your device into Mapsource. Just save them in Mapsource and select save as GPX file to retain the full tracklog format.
Once done you can delete the tracklogs from your unit. Select tracks on you unit to enter the tracklogs menu. The you will see the list of your actual tracklogs. Click clear to clear up the memory. This is final and tracklogs can't be recovered so make sure you store them beforehand.

Tracklog submission - you may upload your zipped tracklogs here, or send them by email to [Dear Guest/Member you can't see link before replyclick here to register] and I will add them to the map.

    Thank you

    Mapsource download

    Hi Lurkin and everybody else.
Could you please give me the URL of a site where I can download MapSource? On garmin website I can only download updates, but since I'm travelling I do not have the CD with me and I use everysday a different computer. So I need to install and then download all the maps I need at once.
    Thank you and best,

    giovanni

The only legal way I know to get Mapsource for free is described in the newbie section on this forum: [Dear Guest/Member you can't see link before replyclick here to register]
Alternatively you map use Garmin's BaseCamp software which will do the same job. Download from here: [Dear Guest/Member you can't see link before replyclick here to register]

    Hope that helps

Well lurkin. It worked out well but at the end when I want to save as .gpx file it says that there is an error and ask me if I want to send a report to Garmin. (I can save them in .gdb)

    another thing:
I see that under track log-->setup-->Data card set up there is the option 'Log track to data card' which in my Garmin device is currently on. I have therefore .gpx file for each day I used the device. Is this a sign that the device is automatically saving the way-points and tracks on the memory card? If so why it is still 0% (I might assume that .gpx file are not heavy and thus there is still so much so save on a 2GB memory card)

I think I am getting a little bit lost. anyway thank you.

Hmmm, that's weird. Mapsource definitely allows to store tracklogs on GPX-format. If impossible for you, just use GDB-format.

Given that you activated tracklog recording and you store them all on microSD card the only limit is the size of your memory card.
Tracklogs have usually less than 1MB size per day with recording interval set to 1 second. When you insert your microSD card (using an SDcard adapter) into a card reader you should be able to see all recorded tracklogs in GPX-format.
