The very latest version of Mapsource - version 6.16.1 - does not allow route planing for 3 rd party maps. In another words, non Garmin maps will not be displayed correctly, routing across map files won't work with 3rd party maps. Obviously Mapsource works flawlessly with Garmin own maps.
Mapsource also does not render 3rd party maps correctly, users need to press "ctrl G" 2x to display maps clearly after zooming in or out.
For the time being peeps should stick with Mapsource version 6.15.X (where 6.15.11) is the last version which works without those problems.
