Some basics first.....
The IMG-file is NOT a graphic file viewable with any picture viewer but a compiled map in Garmin format.
It can also not be viewed in Mapsource.
You can however, view the map on your GPS unit once you installed it.
You will need a microSD/SD card, create a directory "garmin" on the microSD/SD card and copy the downloaded "gmapsupp.img" file onto the directory "garmin" which you just created on the microSD/SD card. Insert the card into your GPS device and turn it on.
Usually the Garmin device will automatically recognize the map.
Make sure the map is set to active (while all other maps are set to NON active) in your "setup" -> "map" menu of your device.
Make sure you backup your current map on the microSD/SD card first before uploading the new map!!! Don't blame me if you lose your map, I told you
In the View Map screen (on Nuvi), you can also zoom out to the country extent. Then, drag your finger across the screen to bring into view the place on the globe where your new map is and zoom back in. Map detail will begin to appear as you zoom in closer.
